Krasnokamensk hosted Forum «From Social Security Initiatives to Socially Oriented Entrepreneurships»
The event was organized for the methodological support to socially-oriented businesses within preparations for the 6th edition of the Social Security Grants Competition. It is held by ARMZ Uranium Holding Co., Krasnokamensk city council and the SME Foundation on a yearly basis and is aimed at socially oriented entrepreneurs, public and non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, municipal institutions, and volunteers to grant RUB 2.5 million for the implementation of the best social security projects.
The forum gathered not only potential grantees who were engaged in business projects, but also representatives of public and non-profit organizations that would like to contribute to social development of both, the city and the district.
Yelena Lapa, Director of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the Chita branch, and her colleagues held training sessions and master classes. The participants worked as a team to learn from mistakes and generate ideas that would be used to address some social problems, while finalists of federal and regional grants competitions shared their experiences in project implementation and told about their future plans.
The two-day forum activities resulted in the presentation of projects developed by the participants, which was followed by expert advice and suggestions for every project. The initiatives cover a range of social security areas and include the project by Learned Giraffe, Krasnokamensk Autonomous Non-Profit Organization for Additional Education of Children, to teach kids the basics of robotics, the Breath Salt Room project by the White Daisy Charity Foundation intended for young patients of the regional tuberculosis sanatorium, and some programs for the support of socially vulnerable people, such as the Healthy Mom — Healthy Baby and the We Are for the Clean City!, which had been developed by volunteers. «Krasnokamensk business people, volunteers and social activists have presented interesting and well-developed projects. If some of them win the grant competition and further implement their projects, the city will receive new jobs and we will have a healthier environment and children at social security institutions will live a more comfortable life,» said Viktoria Dolina, Head of ARMZ CSR & Non-Financial Reporting. In total, Krasnokamensk has received more than 60 social security projects over the past five years, thanks to the funding from ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. For example, the Food of Life project won a grant award to buy dishes and products for cooking hot dinners, which might save the lives of people in difficult situations, while the regional children’s tuberculosis sanatorium got sports playgrounds. Some outdoor exercise equipment was installed in the city yard in the context of the Sports Accessible to Everyone!, a project developed by PIMCU volunteers, and Regional Hospital No. 4 was able to buy special sanitary equipment for patients of the Surgical Department. Nina Kirimova as an individual entrepreneur has implemented a project of free hairdressing services for children at social security institutions and retired people. There are a dozen of other initiatives, but in general it is clear that the funds were spent well.
«It should be noted that the social security situation in Krasnokamensk has improved in recent years. People are optimistic about the future and this is due to the implementation of socially oriented projects along with the active construction of Mine No. 6 as the future of Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Union, and new businesses emerged in the priority development zone,» said Krasnokamensk vice mayor Olga Kanunnikova.
The results of the grant competition will be announced in late October.
