In 2014, Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Union is to continue geological exploration and discovery activity within Streltsovskoye ore field and its margins
Geologists from PIMCU are confident that many deposits within the Streltsovskoye ore field remain undiscovered. “We are aware of at least other sixteen ore occurrences, which need to be assessed and engaged in operations, if necessary. Discovery of new, currently unknown targets is also possible,” believes Sergey Shchukin, JSC PIMCU Chief Geologist.
Geological exploration activities within the Streltsovskoye ore field were halted almost simultaneously with the collapse of the USSR in 1992. These operations are rather long-lasting and extremely expensive. ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. has managed to resume them and has worked out the Kaldera project aimed at discovering new deposits within the Streltsovskoye ore field.
At the moment, forecasting is being performed. The Fedorovsky All-Russian Institute of Mineral Resources acts in the capacity of the General Contractor, while Sosnovgeologia (Irkutsk subsidiary of the Geological Research Enterprise Urangeologorazvedka), the Institute of Geology of Ore Deposits under the Russian Academy of Sciences, JSC NPP VIRG-Rudgeofizika and some other scientific organizations act as subcontractors. The Expert Board is headed by Igor Zhilkin, First Deputy Director General – Chief Operating Officer of JSC Atomredmetzoloto.
Once forecasting is completed, discovery and exploration activities will commence, involving evaluation of commercial significance and economic value of each new deposit. “I think that we have knowledge just of a half of the Streltsovskoye ore field reserves at the best. So its potential can only be characterized from the positive side,” Sergey Shchukin is assured.
