RUSBURMASH implementing unique project of state significance on Novaya Zemlya archipelago
RUSBURMASH commenced implementation of a large-scale exploration project of federal importance on the Yuzhny island of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Arctic region, which involves evaluating commercial significance of the Bezymyansky ore field, including the Pavlovskoye lead-zinc deposit. The works have been commissioned by the project operator, JSC First Ore-Mining Company (a subsidiary and affiliate of JSC Atomredmetzoloto).
So far, a professional expedition has already departed to the work site. Depreservation of the workers’ camp is underway. Support equipment, e.g. all-terrain vehicles, diesel generator sets and etc. are being prepared for operation. Geologists proceeded with environmental surveys. In late June – early July, drilling equipment is expected to be delivered to the archipelago, which will enable commencement of expendable and water well drilling.
Under the project, RUSBURMASH is to fulfill the full scope of geological exploration activities at the prospect evaluation and exploratory phases. This will involve analyzing materials obtained during previous geological exploration works; drilling water wells and shallow boreholes; studying core material; compiling a geological and geophysical database; creating a geological and mathematical model of the deposit; developing the Feasibility Study of permanent exploration conditions; as well as calculating major and associated reserves.
Operations conducted on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago pose a complex task in terms of organization and technical execution, which is due to its remoteness and extremely harsh weather conditions. The full scope of field works scheduled for 2014 are to be completed within the shortest possible time of just four months, although such works are generally fulfilled in two or three operational seasons.
Igor Saveliev, Director General of RUSBURMASH, noted that participation in such a large-scale project, especially in the capacity of a turn-key project contractor, enables the company to significantly strengthen its strategic market standing. “Taking into account experience and competencies of our company, it is safe to say that RUSBURMASH is fully ready to implement the most sophisticated projects on the basis of advanced technology. Also noteworthy is the fact that for us, operations in the Arctic region is a long-term project. We plan to establish a regional Drilling and Auxiliary Equipment Base, which may be used both for continuation of the existing project at the Pavlovskoye deposit and for new projects,” he added.
