Shaft sinkers at PIMCU complete 2 km of 7D level of underground uranium mine No. 8
A total of 2.5 km will need to be completed at 7D level between pit shafts 14V and 14RESH. “Two kilometers is an important milestone that makes us confident that all the sinking operations at the new level will be completed before the end of the year,” said Vladimir Verkhovtsev, General Director of ARMZ Uranium Holding, who went down to Level 7D during a working visit to PIMCU.
It must be noted, that the sinking of 7D level is an important component of the project “Optimizing Winning Processes.” Its essence is to increase the height of each level at Mine No. 8 by 30 meters, from 60 to 90 meters. The effective winning system will allow to lower mine operation costs by RUB 1.5 bln. In the future, this system will be used on Mine No. 6, where the height of each level will be 120 m.
“In addition to the main drilling process at the level, we also completed drilling the main downcast airgate. Preparation work is underway at blocks 8-701 and 8-706, preparation has started for drilling from pit shaft 14V, where the shaft inset is being arranged. We have fully completed setting up the shaft inset and the roundhouse at pit shaft 14RESH,” Andrey Ryazanov, Director of the Sinking Office of JSC “PIMCU.”
He also said, that for the first time in the history of the corporation, shaft sinkers used 2KV combine to drill an 87 m vertical opening: “Earlier in our mountain conditions, when drilling at depth of over 63 meters, miners did not bore vertical openings. It was feared that there will be deviations from the set parameters of the original well, but, thanks to engineering calculations and competent work of professionals and staff, everything went well.”
The linkage at 7D level will be carried out before the end of 2016. After the drilling is complete, uranium mining will commence at the level.
