Atomredmetzoloto, Atomflot and VostokUgol have agreed on cooperation in Arctic
Vladimir Verhovtsev, Director General of JSC Atomredmetzoloto, Vyacheslav Ruksha, Director General of FSUE Atomflot, and Dmitry Bosov, LLC VostokUgol Management Company, have signed agreement “On cooperation in the sphere of integrated development of Arctic zone of the Russian Federation”.
Document have been signed in the course of International Arctic Forum “Arctic: Territory of Dialogue” held in Arkhangelsk.
The agreement provides for mutually beneficial partnership in a range of issues, including uninterrupted and environmentally safe icebreaker assistance for vessels along the lanes of Northern Sea Route, as well as joint development of poly-metallic, coal and other deposits, including design and construction of ore-dressing enterprises in Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.
“Unique experience of Rosatomflot is the mainstay for the wide-scale projects in high latitudes. There are no doubts that the signed document on cooperation will be seen as a positive sign for companies planning their activities in Arctic,” emphasized Vyacheslav Ruksha, Director General of FSUE Atomflot.
Besides, the parties agreed to interact when considering other joint projects in the region and other various forms of cooperation.
One of the main line of cooperation is project of development of Pavlovskoye lead-zinc field (Yuznhy island, Novaya Zemlya archipelago in Arkhangelsk region), namely, establishment and rigging of ore-dressing plant and port complex infrastructure objects.
“Pavlovskoye is one of the key project for diversification of activities for Mining division of Rosatom State Corporation in the Russian Arctic. We strongly believe that combining our efforts, developing cooperation and using best practices in solving of strategic issues of similar tasks, we create maximum efficiency and beneficial cooperation in revealing economic potential of Arkhangelsk region and Arctic zone as a whole,” noted Vladimir Verhovtsev, Director General of Uranium Holding ARMZ.
Expertise of VostokUgol in the sphere of quick launching of complex projects in Arctic, including mining operations, establishment of transport infrastructure, adjustment of logistics scheme will contribute to successful implementation of our collective plans. Pavlovskoye is one of the most promising deposits in Arctic, its development will enhance positions of Russia in the world markets,” said Dmitry Bosov, LLC VostokUgol Management Company.
Pavlovskoye is one of the major lead-zinc ore deposits in Russia. Its reserves are estimated to contain 47.7 mln tonnes of ore (2.49 mln tonnes of zinc, 549 thousand tonnes of lead and 1194 tonnes of silver). The First Mining Company is planning to establish mining plant with capacity of 3.5 mln tonnes ores per year on Novaya Zemlya.
