Two Buryatia Districts Get Fibre-Optic Communication Line Thanks to ARMZ Uranium Holding and Rostelecom
Khiagda, JSC (one of the companies managed by ARMZ Uranium Holding Co., Mining Division of Rosatom State Corporation) and Rostelecom implemented a joint project to install a fibre-optic communication line (FOCL) in the Bauntovsky and Yeravninsky Districts of Buryatia.
The production sites of Khiagda, JSC and the nearby villages in the Republic of Buryatia – Sosnovo-Ozerskoe, Shiringa, Gunda, Isinga and Romanovka – received high-speed Internet access. In total, 218 km of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) has been laid. The joint investments amounted to RUB 123 million, and the share of Khiagda, JSC in the provided investments was RUB 41.3 million. 1,300 families living in the nearest villages, as well as schools, Medical centres, and other social facilities got high-speed Internet access. Thanks to the establishment of the Fibre-optic communication, cellular network and interactive television will develop, and plans are under way to have ATMs and payment terminals installed.
The setting up of Optical Fibre communication lines is one of the most significant projects for the Uranium-producing enterprise and for the development of the region as a whole. Khiagda, JSC faces now new opportunities for the application of groundbreaking technologies, and, first of all, the construction of an “intelligent mine”, a new-generation, automated-production facility. Additionally, the OFC initiative eliminates digital inequality in the remote areas and provides comfortable living conditions for local residents,” said Vladimir Verkhovtsev, Director General of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co.
“It has been implemented a major investment project, being as well highly significant for society," Alexey Tsydenov, the head of the Republic of Buryatia, said. “The efficient teamwork between the State and the Business community made high-speed Internet available in remote areas. In particular, under the social and economic agreement on cooperation between Khiagda, JSC and the Bauntovsky-Evenki District of the Republic of Buryatia, some important projects improving the quality of life and encouraging young people to stay in the countryside have been implemented for several years.”
The implementation of the project allowed Khiagda, JSC to increase the speed of information exchange between the units several times; videoconferencing works and video monitoring is going to be organized at the facilities of the production site. “The Intelligent Mine innovative project will be launched at the site of Khiagda, JSC in 2018, and we need high speed internet for its implementation. The project will enhance the security system and will automate the production process at all stages,” Andrey Gladyshev, Director General of Khiagda, JSC, noted. “In the near future, we plan to organize the digital interactive television at the shift camp. Establishing high-quality and high-speed Internet access at the Mine is an important contribution to improving the social and living conditions of our employees."
Following a working visit to a production site of Khiagda, JSC, the decision to implement the project was adopted by the heads of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. and the Republic of Buryatia in March 2017.
As a part of the Consolidated group of taxpayers, Rosatom State Corporation has also transferred about RUB 740 million to the regional budget of the Republic (since 2013). These funds have helped to address a number of infrastructure issues – construction of roads and bridge structures, restructuring of energy networks, etc. – in the Bauntovsky-Evenki District, where Khiagda, JSC, the most promising Russian asset of raw materials for the nuclear industry, is situated.
